A lack of intensity and focus killed the San Francisco 49ers the last four games, and ultimately was one of the reasons Mike Nolan was put on ice Monday. That likely will not be the case with interim head coach Mike Singletary. Someone nicknamed "The Samurai" should be able to apply pressure to players who do not go all-out to win games.

Commentary: Take a second and think what film sessions will be like if J.T. O'Sullivan throws another errant pass.

J.T. O' Sullivan: "Coach, why is my stomach burning?"

Coach Singletary: "Simple, J.T., I burnt a hole through it with my eyes. Next time you let a safety occur on a play that started past the 10-yard line, I am going to put on pads and lay your ass deeper into the ground than the meteor from "Deep Impact."

J.T. O'Sullivan: "Got it, coach."

There is no question that a young and somewhat talented squad like the 49ers can compete with most of the NFL if it comes prepared to play. Lately, that has been a big if, though, and that's where Singletary's former NFL playing experience will come in. Who is better able to relate to players than a Hall of Fame linebacker? The question mark comes in the lack of coordinating experience for Singletary, which leads some to believe the organization felt it was best to keep offensive coordinator Mike Martz and defensive coordinator Greg Manusky right where they are. This way, Singletary can lean on them to make the right calls. Niner fans should rejoice; after all, Singletary may not be the answer, but expect him to be more aware than Nolan.

Fan Pulse: Singletary is expected to change a lot of things for the 2-5 49ers, according to their fans: http://www.49erswebzone.com/forum/thread.php?num=110631.
