The San Francisco 49ers may not be gamblers, but it'd probably be best to cut their losses short and walk away from former top overall pick Alex Smith. The quarterback, who was already knocked out for the season with a shoulder separation, visited Dr. James Andrews to have a bone fragment removed from his shoulder last Thursday.

Commentary: The 49ers owe Smith a $9.6 million base salary next season, which means they'll surely cut him in the offseason. Until then, they'll continue on with either Shaun Hill or J.T. O'Sullivan under center.

Fan Pulse: How much better would the 2008 49ers be if they had drafted the Packers' Aaron Rodgers instead of Alex Smith? That's what San Francisco supporters are sounding off about.

Fantasy Football Commentary: Frank Gore is the only good fantasy option the Niners have. He's gone for double digits in standard scoring formats all but one week this season. The 49ers will likely get steamrolled in Arizona this Monday, but Gore will get his points.

Injury Watch: Receiver Arnaz Battle is questionable with a foot injury.
