San Francisco managed last weekend to stymie the New York Jets' prolific offense in a 24-14 upset win, so maybe the 5-8 Niners aren't all that bad.

The 49ers’ record has certainly taken a nice turn for the better in their five weeks under interim coach Mike Singletary, who took over earlier this season for the fired Mike Nolan. Losing only two games while winning three, San Francisco is really showing signs of not being pathetic. With two consecutive wins fresh in the Bay Area‘s collective memory (let’s not call it a winning streak at two), the 49ers are tasting victory lately when games end.

In last week's game, the Jets' Brett Favre was only allowed a measly 137 yards passing and a 2-yard TD charge. No other Jet accrued 60 yards of offense against the Niners on Sunday. Nice defense.

But that game is now history and on the horizon lurk the Miami Dolphins.

The Dolphins may lack the offensive firepower normally shown by the Jets, but they do have one major problem lying in wait for 49ers quarterback Shaun Hill, namely linebacker named Joey Porter. Currently the NFL’s sack leader with 16½, Porter has single-handedly managed half of Miami’s QB takedown total this season (32).

Once again, 49er fans need not panic. The 8-5 Dolphins are comparable to the Jets in most categories, offensively and defensively. Continued heads-up play and a few lucky breaks during the game in South Florida this Sunday just might yield San Francisco a third straight victory, a sure winning streak.
