This week's matchup with the playoff hopeful Miami Dolphins presents an opportunity for the San Francisco 49ers to have a playoff game of sorts. It's simple: Beat the 8-5 Dolphins and you have quite possibly knocked them out of the playoffs.

Commentary: Games like these are the kind that players, particularly young ones looking for motivation, live for. What was once a spoiled season could be turned around with a win against a Miami team that everybody is praising more than Barack Obama.

Along with the Atlanta Falcons, the Dolphins have been cited as one of the NFL's biggest surprises this season. It's arguable that San Francisco turning around its season lately has been just as shocking. A win this week would put an exclamation point on this part of the season and make the 5-8 Niners winners of four of their last five games. Would they need any more incentive to pull the "interim" label off coach Mike Singletary's title for next season? I don't think so.

Fan Pulse: Has Mike Martz failed as the 49ers' offensive coordinator in 2008? That's what 49ers fans are discussing.

Fantasy Football Commentary:
If you are in your league's fantasy playoffs, you are probably surrounding Frank Gore's name with expletives. Game-time decisions are recipes for fantasy owner headaches. He is clearly the best option on San Fran, though, so make sure and check in to see his status for the 1 p.m. game (he has a high ankle sprain). It could make or break your season.

Injury Watch:
Nothing other than Gore.
