The future may be uncertain for quarterback Shaun Hill, but the 49ers should keep him around. Consistency is key for the 49ers to grow as a team, and it all starts under center. Is there any reason not to point to Hill as the starter for San Fran?

Commentary: Keeping Hill, who is already under contract for next season, as the starter will allow the 49ers' offense to jell. The bigger questions are whether offensive coordinator Mike Martz will be back (he shouldn't), and whether the 49ers ought to draft plenty of O-linemen (they should).

Fan Pulse" Alex Smith will be the starter in 2009. Before you laugh, check out the thoughts on this statement being spread by 49ers fans.

Fantasy Football Commentary: I did my best to steer clear of Frank Gore in fantasy drafts and my playoff teams were better for it. The 13-0 team I had, which Gore was on, bit the dust at playoff time. That's what happens when you have a talented running back who gets beaten down because of a lousy offensive line. In terms of value when picked, Hill and Isaac Bruce turned out to be the best fantasy players on the Niners.

Injury Watch: Gore will have all offseason to heal his ankle. Props to him for gaining 1,000 yards for the third straight season, even with injuries.
