From the team president to coaches, players and uniforms, change is upon the San Francisco 49ers. In this case, that's great news. The once-storied franchise is attempting to bring back success and might be satisfied with mediocrity for starters.

The 49ers have suffered six consecutive losing seasons; during that span, their combined record has been a dismal 32-64. What's more, the revolving door at nearly every coaching position has proved to be extremely detrimental to the team. However, San Francisco’s recent State of the Franchise press conference proves its dedication toward assembling a winning foundation back in the Bay Area.

The 49ers have been in a position to turn the corner on three different occasions. In 2003, '06 and now in '08, they’ve managed to reel off a record of 7-9 and have gained positive momentum heading into the next season. Unfortunately, they’ve followed up their newfound hope with seasons of 2-14 and 5-11 in the past. How can the 49ers get back over the hump this time? It requires one major action: change.

The cornerstone of this movement is head coach Mike Singletary, whose demanding nature and instant credibility should work wonders in getting necessary tasks accomplished. With accountability at an all-time high, each component throughout the organization will be expected to perform at an elevated level.

Joining Singletary in the festivities is new team president Jed York, who has become the face of the ownership group at only 27 years of age. Born and bred a 49er, York’s passion has already spilled over and his enthusiasm should only help speed up the turnaround underway in San Francisco.

With new coaches now in place and new players expected to be added during the offseason, the initial facet of the plan has already commenced. Shortly thereafter, the hard part -- which entails showing results on the field -- will begin.
