It's that time of the year again. Football is back! I can already hear the Monday Night Football song, and can picture my Sundays on the couch. Fans from every team has something to root for in the upcoming year. No matter what happened last year everyone starts off 0-0 and as we have seen again and again, anything can and will happen. In Pittsburgh they are hoping for a repeat amid all the distractions that Big Ben is dealing with. In Detroit they are hoping to win at least 1 game. In Buffalo they are hoping that T.O. will keep his mouth shut, produce and lead them to the playoffs. And for those of us in the Bay Area we are looking forward to the 49ers getting back to their winning ways. They started to string some wins together and played pretty well at the end of the year. Can they keep the momentum going and be the surprise team this season? Of course. In fact I had a dream that showed me exactly what would happen.

The 49ers are winning the NFC West this year. How you ask? Well lets start on the Defensive side of the ball. Although the numbers don't indicate it, the defense played good last year. They gave up a lot of points but when your offense is never on the field that makes it difficult to keep the other team off the board. If you look at the second half of the season the defense kept 5 out of 8 opponents under 20. They also had a heartbreaking loss to the Cardinals and Washington scored 24. If the offense can actually start putting some points on the board and stay on the field a little longer the defensive numbers will reflect that. So how is the offense going to turn things around? That all changed on draft night when the 49ers drafted Michael Crabtree.

Crabtree is the answer for the 49ers problems in so many ways. With his addition it takes pressure off everyone as there is another threat on the field. With Gore, Davis, and Crabtree all of a sudden Hill has the chance to really show what he can do. Hill has not proven he is the answer to the QB situation but to be fair he hasn't really been given a chance, as he has never had a big name receiver to throw to. The great QB's will take a mediocre offense and make them look good. They don't need a big name receiver (even though they usually have one anyway), but Hill is not great, so he does need that number 1 receiver.

The 49ers can easily beat every team in the division. No team on paper or on the field is that formidable. Let's start with the defending division champs. The 49ers played the Cardinals tough in both games. In fact if they don't completely implode inside the Cardinals 10 they win the second game, and I don't care that the Cardinals got lucky and were in the Super bowl last year. All that tells me is that any team can get hot and make a run when they get to the playoffs. There are too many issues with the Cardinals to repeat. Warner has to stay healthy, Boldin is not happy and most importantly, its the Cardinals! The Rams and Seahawks are both franchises who don't seem to have a direction right now so I'm not worried about either of them. Everything was going exactly as planned until recently when I see Crabtree is prepared to sit out the season and re-enter the draft.

Here we go again. Hopefully both the Niners and Crabtree's advisors can get this worked out. There are reports that Crabtree is not talking about holding out and that contract talks are ongoing, but either way its negative attention to a situation that doesn't need it. I can't name any holdout that has worked out in the end. Either the player comes into camp too late to be productive, or they burn too many bridges before they even get started. Is Crabtree the next T.O.? I guess when you draft a big name player you have to worry about big name player egos. It's hard to blame Crabtree for wanting more money, as at the end of they day it is still viewed as a business, but this is not a good start to the 49ers season. This wasn't how my dream started, but as long as its ends with the NFC West Crown I will be happy.
