SAN FRANCISCO, California - The San Francisco 49ers must have liked what they saw from kicker Joe Nedney in a team workout. Though he hasn't played in the NFL in almost 2 years, the Niners gave Nedney a 1 year contract.

While with Tennessee Titans, Nedney suffered a torn ACL while trying to make a tackle against the Oakland Raiders in the 2003 season opener. He tried a comeback with the Titans last year but had to spend the season on injured reserve.

The 9 year veteran has also played for the Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers and Raiders since joining the league as an undrafted free agent in 1996. He is 74.7% accurate on field goals for his career (127-170).

Nedney will compete with Kirk Yliniemi and Chace Long for kicking opportunities.
