49ers and Peterson agree to 1 year contract

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Julian Peterson agreed to a 1 year tender offer. Peterson will make $7.29 million in 2005, the average salary of the 5 highest-paid players at his position.

Peterson tore his right Achilles' tendon in the fifth week of the 2004 regular season. He finished the year with 27 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 2 passess defended and 1 forced fumble.

The 16th overall pick of the 49ers in 2000 from Michigan State University, the 6'3", 235 lbs. Peterson is still considered among the best at his position after making the Pro Bowl in 2002 and 2003. In his 5 years as a professional with the Niners, he has 312 tackles, 18.5 sacks, 5 interceptions, 28 passes defended, 6 forced fumbles, and 3 fumbles recovered.
