The NFL's worst offense, property of the San Francisco 49ers, struck again yesterday, succumbing to Seattle by a score of 23-3. And chances are it will strike again.

Sure, there's plenty of football to be played. And yes, only one of the 49ers' two losses was to an NFC foe. But with all the offensive issues that have plagued the Niners since the preseason, it's no real surprise that San Francisco's 'O' couldn't better a strong defense (Seattle's) on Sunday.

Even with quarterback Trent Dilfer taking over the offense after starting gunslinger Alex Smith separated his shoulder in the first quarter, the 49ers' offense could not get things going at all.

At least you can't blame Smith for all the offensive woes this time around. Fans have been clamoring for Dilfer to come in, and he did. Sorry to say, the end result was the same. The problems appear to go deeper than the QB position, obviously.

Over the past two games, both of which were losses, the Niners have scored only one touchdown, the quarterbacks (whether Dilfer or Smith) have been pressured by the opposing rush and have fared terribly through the air, and star running back Frank Gore has averaged only 59 yards per contest. All the Niners' problems don't point to one source. A serious lack of blocking, dropped passes, schemes, among other things, are the culprits. So there's no one problem to focus on in this myriad of serious issues.

Next week, San Francisco's anemic offense has to face the Baltimore Ravens' defense, which is the eighth-best in the NFL. Frankly, it's delusional to think the 49ers' various issues will be resolved in only seven days, so their chances of beating Baltimore, which is 2-2 and coming off a tough loss to the Browns, are slim.

After the Ravens game, the 49ers will have a bye week. Fans have to hope that head coach Mike Nolan & Co. will actually discover the problems on offense and make some early season changes for the better.

Wait and see if the San Francisco 49ers bounce back at RealFootball365.com
