The Niners are seeking a Director of Public Relations within their Communications: Media Relations/Servicing department. You may recall this was the position formerly held by Kirk Reynolds, the infamous PR director responsible for the distasteful Sensitivity Training videos.

Description: The Director of Media Relations is responsible for the proactive and strategic day-to-day operations of the Media Relations Department. The team seeks someone who reports to the Vice President of Sales and Marketing and works closely with the Head Football Coach and other key executives in football and business departments. The chosen candidate must be able to develop and implement a strong strategic media/public relations plan to support the media and marketing communications needs and strategies of the 49ers.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

A) Manages the day-to-day operations of the Media Relations Department;

B) Develops a pro-active media plan, identifies and manages all potential team media issues/crisis communications and corresponding communications policies;

C) Supports the marketing department's brand development efforts;

D) Manages Media Relations budget;

E) Hires, coaches, mentors and supervises Media Relations staff;

F) Receives internal and external interview requests for players and works closely with players, coaches, management and the media regarding such requests;

G) Provides editorial direction for the 49ers web site and publications;

H) Directs media and PR initiatives for all team needs as described above;

I) Managing editor of Media Guide; acts as producer, editor, art director, and production manager;

J) Acts as primary contact for team travel to coordinate media interviews, etc.;

K) Media contact for local and national media and sports media, particularly managing press conferences, team spokesperson from time to time;

L) Primary liaison with NFL and NFL.com media with respect to features and league team PR;

M) Manages game day media interviews, pre and post event, practices, etc.;

N) Other related duties as required.


IDEAL CANDIDATE:

A) A degree in public relations, journalism, communications, or sports administration and proven strong communication skills verbally and in writing;

B) At least five years experience, recognized high integrity, in a senior sports media relations role;

C) NFL public relations experience preferred

D) Positive personality, effort and enthusiasm that has proven to positively impact public perception of an organization;

E) Ability to multi task and meet strict deadlines;

F) Computer literacy;

G) Must be able to travel and be available to work during games on days, evenings and weekends.

H) Proven ability to pro-actively establish a plan and develop effective working relationships and new ideas with a variety of media and community contacts besides just sports;
