Johnnie Morton has signed a two year deal with the San Francisco 49ers. He has been brought in to help fortify one of the most pitiful receiving corps in the NFL. Morton will most likely be the #1 option for rookie quarterback Alex Smith. That does not bode well for this year's first draft pick overall.

Johnnie Morton is an 11 year veteran who has spent the past three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. He spent his first eight seasons with the Detroit Lions were he enjoyed his most productive seasons. Last year Morton caught 55 passes for 795 yards and three touchdowns.

Morton will line up alongside wide receivers Brandon Lloyd and Arnaz Battle as well as tight end Eric Johnson. These players will prove to be Alex Smith's top option should he wrench away the starting quarterback position from incumbent Tim Rattay.
