Meaningless games are nothing new to the San Francisco 49ers or Cleveland Browns, two teams that will meet this weekend.

The 2007 season marks the fifth consecutive year San Francisco has failed to reach the playoffs, and the same will be said of 9-6 Cleveland if Tennessee wins its game over the Colts' backups Sunday.

No matter what the Browns do, their fate is in the Titans' hands; both teams are vying for the last playoff spot in the AFC, and the Titans currently have the upper hand. If the Browns win and finish 10-6, their strong season will go for naught should Tennessee emerge victorious.

The outcome of the San Francisco-Cleveland contest was made practically irrelevant when the Browns choked last week in Cincinnati, losing 19-14.

The 49ers, 5-10, will try to end the season on a three-game winning streak and hope Shaun Hill is the long-term answer at quarterback.

San Francisco's final game last year, an upset win in Denver, at least gave the team a chance to play spoiler against the Broncos, a role which the 49ers relished. In Cleveland, the Niners will be playing strictly for pride on the surface, but they also have somewhat of a shot to keep the Browns from the playoffs if Tennessee fails to finish off Indianapolis.
