Oklahoma freshman offensive tackle Britt Mitchell has left the team and will join the Marines, The Oklahoman is reporting.

“He has the coaching staff’s full support in pursuing something that has been attractive to him for some time,” Sooners sports information director Kenny Mossman said of the 6-foot-6, 311-pounder on Tuesday.

COMMENTARY: It’s hard to blame a young man who prefers to serve his country during a time of war.
