Oregon Ducks rover Todd Lamar Doxey, a redshirt freshman from San Diego, Calif., died Sunday afternoon after reportedly jumping off a nearby McKenzie River bridge as teammates were tubing down the river. After swimming some distance to shore, Doxey had problems staying afloat and subsequently drowned. His teammates were not able to get to him in time.

"Anytime a young man or woman dies, it's just a tragedy," Oregon coach Mike Bellotti said. "My heart goes out to his family and to our players, some whom were there and some who will find out about it later. This is just one of those things we don't have answers for."

The freshman led the defense in tackles (four) during Oregon’s spring game. Doxey was born in 1989 and graduated from Hoover High School in San Diego.
