The Packers looked sharp in their 45-28 blowout win in Detroit last weekend, although the game was much closer than the final score indicated. It wasn’t until Green Bay's defense returned back-to-back interceptions for touchdowns in the fourth quarter that the Pack secured the victory.

Commentary: It happened again. After a dominating performance in the first half, the Green Bay offense stagnated and gave its opponent ample opportunity to get back into the game. Head coach Mike McCarthy’s play-calling went soft and after a pair of quick Lions scores, the win wasn’t such a sure thing.

In McCarthy’s defense, maybe he knew the Packers' defense was that good.

However, if McCarthy and general manager Ted Thompson are so sure about choosing Aaron Rodgers over Brett Favre, why not act like it? Rodgers had a huge day that could have been even bigger. With running back Ryan Grant’s progress coming along slowly and no viable backup plans behind him, McCarthy should be playing to Green Bay’s strength -- right now that's the passing game.

The Packers' Week 3 contest versus Dallas should obviously be an interesting one, and conservative play-calling by the former will likely make for an unfavorable matchup. With no running game, McCarthy is going to have to spread out the offense, call for a lot of passes and keep the pressure on all evening. This will be the first true test for Rodgers, who has fared brilliantly against two lesser teams (Minnesota and Detroit).

Fan Pulse: Seems like the Favre controversy is becoming a distant memory. The Dallas game is either going to bury it or bring it back to life.

Fantasy Football Impact: If McCarthy attacks the Dallas secondary for four quarters (as he should), look for Rodgers to have an even bigger week than last. If you own Rodgers, play him; if you’re playing against him . . . well, hope for his first subpar outing.
