In an exchange of differently-styled running backs, the troubled Green Bay Packers traded power runner Samkon Gado to the less troubled Houston Texans for the speedier, flashier Vernand Morency.

The Texans are still seeking solutions for their sparse running game made infinitely thinner with the loss of Domanick Davis for the season. Gado was sought to complement rookies Wali Lundy and Chris Taylor, and veteran Ron Dayne.

The Packers, meanwhile, are already seeking ... something, anything. Reports of Green Bay's ugly demise in the game against the Chicago Bears were not greatly exaggerated. For his part, Gado moonwalked to minus seven yards on two carries. Gado played fairly well in about half of 2005, running up over 500 yards subbing for the depleted Packer running corps before succumbing to injury himself.

Morency was drafted in the third round by Houston in 2005 and played sporadically last year. In the final game of the season against the San Francisco 49ers, he bagged 129 total yards.

No official comment has come from Packers general manager Ted Thompson, but rest assured that this is in no way a desperation move.
