Packers' quarterback Brett Favre has been quoted in the Green Bay Press-Gazette as being disappointed with Javon Walker's contract holdout. He went so far as to suggest the team could manage without the Pro Bowl wide receiver.

"We've got guys who'll give great effort. Stars are made that way. Look what happened when Sterling [Sharpe] left. Robert Brooks stepped up," Favre said. "We can win without him."

Walker did not attend a mandatory mini-camp that ended Sunday. Coach Mike Sherman had excused Favre - the team's QB since 1992 - from this minicamp.

The 6'3", 215 lbs. Walker has 2 years left on the contract he signed with the Packers in 2002. The former Florida State Seminole made the Pro Bowl after catching 89 passes for 1,382 yards and 12 touchdowns last year.

Walker's new agent is Drew Rosenhaus, the same agent who represented cornerback Mike McKenzie when he held out of all the Packers' practices in 2004. McKenzie was traded to the New Orleans Saints early in the season.

Favre left no doubt how he thinks the team should handle the situation. He said, "I sure hope the Packers don't give in to him."
