New England saw their hopes of a NFL record third straight Super Bowl win dashed Saturday night by Denver at Mile High Stadium, with the Broncos running out 27-10 winners. As far as playoff games go, this was a pretty one-sided affair, with Denver taking command early in the first quarter, and taking a 10 – 3 lead in at the half.

The Patriots did rally in the third quarter, and a long drive down field by Brady put them within hands-reach of the end zone at the Denver one-yard line. With first and goal, the Pats looked certain to score and lead for the first time in the contest. However, all hopes of a Patriots comeback though were crushed when Brady floated a pass into the end zone that was picked off by Champ Bailey who ran the length of the field before being flattened by a Ben Watson hit at the New England one yard line for a 90-yard interception return. A 1-yard carry by Mike Anderson for a touchdown all but sealed a Denver win and helped them advance to host Pittsburgh in the AFC Conference Championship.
