Patriots sign Wesly Mallard, Monty Beisel

The New England Patriots signed linebacker Wesly Mallard. The free agent acquisition had been a member of the New York Giants since 2002.

The 6'1", 230 lbs. Mallard played 4 contests in 2004 before tearing a ligament in his left knee. He finished the season with 4 tackles.

The former Oregon Duck has played 34 games as a professional in 3 years, mostly as a backup on defense and on special teams. He has 35 career tackles.

The Patriots had previously added free agent Monty Beisel, a young linebacker who had played for the Kansas City Chiefs.

The 6'3", 238 lbs. Beisel recorded 54 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery in 11 games during 2004. In 4 seasons as a pro with the Chiefs out of Kansas State, he has totalled 109 tackles and 2 forced fumbles in 55 games.
