(To the tune of Don McLean's "American Pie.")

Not so long ago...
I can still remember
How New England used to make me smile.
And I know in another game
That the result wouldn't be the same
And maybe the Pats would be 'round for a while.

But Reche Caldwell made me shiver
With every throw Brady did deliver.
The bad news on the doorstep;
They wouldn't go one more step.

I can't remember if I cried
When the scored was no longer tied,
But I thanked them for the brilliant ride
The day New England died.

So bye-bye to the dynasty.
Drove my chevy to the levee,
"This is our country."
Them Boston boys nearly broke down and cried
Singing "this'll be the day that I die."
"This'll be the day that I die."

Did you check the book of plays,
Or did you just stand in a Shell-like daze,
When Marlin Jackson made it so?
Do you believe in Bradyball,
Can football save your mortal soul,
And can you teach me how to play All-Pro?

Half of us fell in love with them
For beating the Rams in a Super Bowl gem.
You've got to give them props.
Man, the years they stayed on top.

Belichick changed a team that sucked
Started it all off with The Tuck,
But I knew they were out of luck
The day New England died.

I started singing,
Bye-bye to the dynasty.
Drove my Chevy to the levee,
"This is our country."
Them Boston boys nearly broke down and cried
Singing "this'll be the day that I die."
"This'll be the day that I die."

So for five years, they were number one
And damn if it wasn't a lot of fun,
But that's not how it used to be.
When the guy calling plays was Steve Grogan
Plus a year or three with Tony Eason
And a fluke with Parcells at glory.

For the first half, the Pats had it all,
But the Colts came out and controlled the ball.
Their season was adjourned;
The verdict was returned.
And while Brady's guys are going home,
Indy's moving on to the Super Bowl,
It pained me to my very soul
The day New England died.

I started singing,
Bye-bye to the dynasty.
Drove my chevy to the levee,
"This is our country."
Them Boston boys nearly broke down and cried
Singing "this'll be the day that I die."
"This'll be the day that I die."

Helter skelter for the first two quarters,
The Pats impressed all the brainy reporters
Fourteen-zip and gaining faaaaaaaast...
Manning's throws landed on the grass.
Asante Samuel intercepted the pass,
And Pats fans thought the lead would always last...

Now the fourth quarter was sweet football
With Tony Dungy converting call after call.
On the edge of our seats,
Oh, would it be another repeat?
With three minutes left, the Colts didn't yield;
And the Pats were called for 12 men on field.
Do you recall what was revealed
The day New England died?

We started singing,
Bye-bye to the dynasty.
Drove my Chevy to the levee,
"This is our country."
Them Boston boys nearly broke down and cried
Singing "this'll be the day that I die."
"This'll be the day that I die."

Oh, and there we were all in one place,
Peyton Manning played like an ace
Leaving no time to start again.
But come on, there was still a minute left!
Surely B-and-B had something left
'Cause it's always been about the end.

Oh, and as I watched them on the drive
With Patriot hopes seeming more alive.
Colts fans were living in hell
As Brady wove his spell.
And as the pass flew low into the air
To finish it off right then and there,
I saw Peyton laughing with delight
The day New England died

He was singing,
Bye-bye to the dynasty.
Drove my Chevy to the levee,
"This is our country."
Them Boston boys nearly broke down and cried
Singing "this'll be the day that I die."
"This'll be the day that I die."

I met a girl in navy blue
And I asked her for some happy news,
But she just smiled and turned away.
I thought a bit about Deion Branch
Maybe with him they'd've had a chance,
But Deion said the Kraft man wouldn't pay.

And in the streets: the children screamed,
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed.
But not a word was spoken;
The mighty run was broken.
And the three men I admire most:
Bruschi, Tom, and the holy coach,
They caught the last train for the coast
The day New England died.

And they were singing,
Bye-bye to the dynasty.
Drove my Chevy to the levee,
"This is our country."
Them Boston boys nearly broke down and cried
Singing "this'll be the day that I die."
"This'll be the day that I die."

They were singing,
Bye-bye to the dynasty.
Drove my Chevy to the levee,
"This is our country."
Them Boston boys nearly broke down and cried
Singing "this'll be the day that I die."
"This'll be the day that I die."
