This week's marquee matchup is a dandy, with the New England Patriots, who have smoked all comers this season and barely broken a sweat, against the equally undefeated and nearly as impressive Dallas Cowboys.

(Incidentally, this is no knock on the Lone Stars; it doesn't matter what anyone, including Bill Belichick, mutters, simply getting a break or two along the way is integral to any great season.)

Within the marquee matchup naturally come marquee names; while golden-boy QBs Tom Brady and Tony Romo will be hyped to the hilt, the spotlight won't stray far from the play of those two controversial WRs, Terrell Owens and Randy Moss.

And why not? Both guys are having monster seasons: T.O.'s on pace for 1,200-plus yards and boasts 18.4 yards per catch; Moss is gathering over one TD reception per game while standing at No. 1 in yardage and fourth in catches.

The first gauntlet in the unofficial battle of WRs was thrown by Owens earlier this week. Rather than speak with reporters before practice, the Monogrammed One left a note explaining that he'd be making no comment about the upcoming 'Pokes-Pats game. Today, Moss responded, sending an open letter response to RealFootball365.com:

Dear Reporters, Fans, Groupies and other NFL followers,

I'd like to take this opportunity to state that I will be taking any and all questions regarding this week's game against the Dallas Cowboys. As the magnitude of the game is no different than any other week (hey, we're the Patriots), I've got plenty of time to chat.

To tell the truth, I'm not all that concerned with what the Cowboys' offense does. Instead, I'm concentrating on tormenting one of the league's most productive pass defenses [Dallas has bagged 10 interceptions and opposing QBs are managing a cumulative rating of just 64.8 -Eds.]

I'd like to respond to my counterpart, the "Original 81," on some of his allegations. True, the old man was wearing the number long before I was. True, my name doesn't make for snappy initials in headlining, although soon I'm thinking I'll have some initials of my own: MVP.

Finally, I'd like to thank all of you, especially the media, for your support this season. Though making the transition from sullen, unhappy underachiever to machine-like (hey, this is the Patriots) all-time great wasn't all that difficult in reality, your support in reshaping my image made the difference.

Sincerely, (followed by Moss' signature)

P.S.

See you in November, Sanders.
