New England Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi will sit out the entire 2005 season as a precautionary measure after suffering a stroke this past February. Bruschi suffered the stroke just 10 days after winning his third Super Bowl title.

Patriots' spokesman Stacey James made the announcement at a press conference yesterday. According to the spokesman Tedy Bruschi has made daily progress and steadily rehabilitating. However, the decision has been made to have him sit out the entire season. The 32 year-old linebacker will be pacing the sidelines and helping coach his fellow New England Patriots. He has been attending team meetings, working with new defensive players, but has not practiced with the team since June.

Bruschi was an integral part of the dominating Patriots' defense that helped win three Super Bowl titles in four seasons. He has played all nine of his NFL seasons with the New England Patriots. Over the past three seasons he has developed a knack for making game changing plays at critical junctures, amassing 11 sacks, 11 interceptions, 7 forced fumbles, and 4 touchdowns. He is reportedly planning to make a comeback next season.
