OK, so as one sportswriter pointed out, Mike McGlynn will probably never be asked to pose for Playgirl. At 6-foot-5, 309 pounds, he's a blue-collar guy with a blue-collar body -- more buffalo than buff.

Just don't get in his way on a running play. Or try to use him as the entry point to a frontal assault of his quarterback. This is someone who not only eats a lot of pancakes, but creates them -- over 100 knockdown blocks as a Panther senior.

Operating with young and inexperienced quarterbacks, Pitt evolved into a run-first, pass-second team in 2007, and right tackle McGlynn helped pave the way for LeSean McCoy's 1,328 rushing yards as a Panther rookie. According to NFL Draft Scout, the team averaged 7.71 yards per play to the right side and 3.41 to the left.

Switched to right guard at the Senior Bowl, the Austintown, Ohio, product continued to move opponents and raise his stock.

According to NFL.com: "During the 9-on-7 drills he (McGlynn) reminded so much of guard Chris Snee of the New York Giants, trying to finish every defender right up to the whistle and quietly going back to the huddle. Someone said they had a fourth-round grade on him coming in, but it's agreed that his performance put him into the third (round).''

Other pluses for McGlynn are durability (he started over 40 games in a row for the Panthers), technique (only three penalties against him in 2007) and versatility (he played every O-line position and also served as Pitt's long snapper for several years). As for speed, he's been clocked at 5.25 in the 40 -- but then, no one's thinking about switching him to wide receiver.

This is the kind of guy who will wind up starting for some NFL team in a year or two, if not right away, and playing in the league for 10 years.
