The bad news just keeps for the Oakland Raiders, who dropped to 0-2 after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night. With a little more than two minutes remaining in the 23-17 loss, wide receiver Ronald Curry tore the same left Achilles tendon that ruptured last December against the Chiefs and forced him to spend eight months rehabbing it.

After an MRI on Monday, the team announced that Curry would be lost for the season, though surgery hasn't been scheduled as of yet. Curry, a backup to star receivers Randy Moss and Jerry Porter, will most likely be replaced by Doug Gabriel. Gabriel, who himself has been out of the lineup due to a dislocated left finger, is expected to be available for this Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Ronald Curry looked impressive in camp and had seemingly put last year's injury behind him and was being looked upon to have a big year as the Oakland Raiders # 3 pass catcher. When reached for comment, he expressed frustration after working so hard to get back on the field.

The slot receiver position, where Curry usually lines up, is a vital one for the Oakland Raiders since opposing defenses usually key on Moss and Porter in coverage. If the guy in the slot can get open and make plays over the middle, the safety has to pick him up instead of helping the cornerback double team the wide outs.
