While the Oakland Raiders' draft has been scrutinized thoroughly by now, many are overlooking a solid group of undrafted free agents. Even if there are a few busts out of the Raiders’ newest additions, the rookie free agents can quickly make up for draft blunders.

Linebacker Frantz Joseph was a relative unknown during draft season, but he could burst on the scene with the Raiders. Despite flying under the radar at Florida Atlantic, Joseph displays all the necessary tools to succeed in the NFL. He racked up 154 tackles during his senior season with the Owls, good for second best in the nation. Within a few years, Joseph could find himself as a starter in Oakland.

Although the Raiders selected wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey with the seventh overall pick, they’re still searching for talent on the perimeter. Former Southern Utah standout Nick Miller and Shawn Bayes of Kent State will get the first shot to join a lackluster group of wideouts. Both players meet Al Davis’ requirement of outstanding speed and could help the Raiders’ offense stretch the field.

Miller received little exposure during his college career but packs a great deal of thunder in a small frame. In addition to his reliable hands, Miller could contribute as a slot receiver and in the return game. Meanwhile, Bayes might end up as more of a possession target, but he could be a perfect complement to the speedy Heyward-Bey. His ability to make tough catches over the middle is a skill Oakland is in desperate need of.

The intellectual of the group is Harvard defensive lineman Desmond Bryant, who has the versatility to play multiple positions in the trenches and demonstrates a rather high football IQ. Furthermore, he possesses the size and quickness to catch on quickly in the professional ranks. If Bryant is able to refine his technique and maximize his physical tools, he has a chance to find a home in the Bay Area.

The Raiders’ coaching staff will get a close look at these players during this weekend’s minicamp. Along with Oakland’s most promising newcomers, the rookie free agents can exhibit their talents and prove they should have been selected in the draft.
