Davis Should Give Season Ticket Holders Signing Bonuses

So much for owning the Jets.

So much for playing professional football.

It would appear the JaMarcus Russell experiment is over in Oakland. However, second-stringer Bruce Gradkowski still seemed to suffer from the same issues, minus the “throw the ball to anyone with a pulse – regardless of shirt color” mindset that seems to fall over JR when he’s under pressure.

Changing out Russell isn’t the answer. Granted, it is part of the solution, just not the entire thing. The Raiders suffer from bad play at the QB position, yes. However, they more than made up for it with poor line play, bad tackling, shoddy play calling and a complete loss of the fundamental grasp on the game of football.

You could easily pick hundreds, if not thousands of high school teams that play solid team football at a higher level than Oakland displayed in Sunday’s blistering loss to the Jets. These are teams filled with amateurs who play for nothing but the love of the game. There are no twenty five thousand dollar game checks, no new endorsement deals, not a single signing bonus, just a need to play at your best.

Imagine that. Play at your best.

Maybe, instead of pillaging the College ranks for his next head coach, when Al Davis fires Cable soon, he should head down to Oakland High and see if one of their coaches wants to get paid big league money to teach men how to play the same game the boys at his school already know how to play?

At least teach them to keep your eye on the punter until the ball is gone.

Or, maybe spend some time teaching them how to hold a football.

How about some tackling drills?

Blocking? Anyone understand the concept of “step-slide”?

Maybe, instead of doing what the thirty one other NFL franchises are doing, Davis should just continue to ride his own ideas into the ground and try something new in order to keep fans in the stands past the first quarter: PSL Signing Bonuses. For every season ticket you buy, Davis can hand over 5% of his “free agent kitty” for next years spending spree.

Stop shelling out the money to high priced players who can’t play and just pay the Nation directly. Chances are, the gang in the Black Hole could pool their money and buy a roster that could be more competitive. In fact, there are probably twenty-two of them who just walked out.
