The NFL's 1978 rookie of the year, James Lofton, interviewed with the Oakland Raiders on Thursday. Lofton played in the National Football League for 16 seasons-seeing action for the Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Raiders, Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Rams, and Philadelphia Eagles. In his career, Lofton caught 764 passes for 14,004 yards, including six seasons of 1,000+ receiving yards and eight Pro Bowl appearances. In his two short years with the Raiders from 1987 to 1988, Lofton caught 69 passes for 1429 yards and five touchdowns. On January 25, 2003, Lofton was officially inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame.

Thursday's interview with Lofton came shortly after that of Al Saunders, the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs. For the past four years, Lofton has been an assistant on the sidelines of the San Diego Chargers. As the wide receivers coach there, Lofton has worked with Curtis Conway, Tim Dwight, David Boston, and most recently, Keenan McCardell and Eric Parker.

Lofton, 49, is a native of California and is currently the father of Daniel Lofton, a wide receiver out of Westview High School. Daniel has just recently been rated the number 51 prospect in the country by Rivals.com. A permanent move to Oakland would only raise convenience for Lofton, as his son has already expressed a verbal obligation to Cal.

Thursday's interview with James Lofton fulfills the NFL required one-minority interview per organization standard.

The Oakland Raiders have also shown a late interest in Fresno State coach Pat Hill, who on Wednesday declared a 10-day window in which NFL teams could contact and interview him for possible coaching positions.
