ALAMEDA, CA - The Raiders signed oft-injured free agent defensive end Derrick Burgess, who had been with the Philadelphia Eagles. Though terms were not disclosed, ESPN reported the deal is worth $17.5 million over 5 years and included $6 million in bonuses. "I'm ecstatic and proud to have the opportunity to wear the Silver and Black," Burgess said. "I'm joining a quality organization in the Raiders with a great tradition and history."

Burgess spent his first 4 seasons with the Eagles. He was limited to 1 game in 2002 and missed the entire 2003 campaign with injuries. However, the 26 year-old Burgess returned last season and started 11 games at right DE.

After recording just 24 tackles and 2 sacks in the regular season, the quick Burgess stepped up his play in the postseason. He registered 10 tackles and 3 sacks. He switched to left end for the NFC championship game and collected 2 sacks. In contrast, Burgess has 8 1/2 sacks during the 29 games in his career.
