ST. LOUIS, Missouri - Just a day after being released by the Dallas Cowboys, Dexter Coakley has found a new home. The St. Louis Rams signed the 3-time Pro Bowl linebacker to a 5-year contract. Financial terms were not disclosed, but the deal is reportedly worth $14.5 million, including a $3 million signing bonus.

Coakley, 32, spent his first 8 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys and ranked 4th in franchise history with 1,046 tackles, but was waived for salary cap purposes. The Rams immediately pounced on Coakley and will likely start him at weakside LB. The team expects to lose outside LB Tommy Polley, who is an unrestricted free agent.

Coakley's streak of seven straight seasons with at least 100 tackles was broken in 2004 when he finished with 91, including 60 solo, along with 6 quarterback pressures and 5 passes defensed. A 3rd-round draft pick out of Appalachian State in 1997, Coakley earned Pro Bowl berths in 1999, 2001 and 2003.
