The St. Louis Rams plan on playing on a new surface next year at their home stadium. The Edward Jones Dome will have FieldTurf installed in 2005 and a new long-term convertible system in place by 2006. This newer surface can be picked up in parts and moved easily to accommodate non-football events.

The Rams have played on an artificial grass carpet laid over concrete since 1995. Players on the team have groused about the lack of cushion on the playing surface. However, FieldTurf has been likened to playing on natural grass.

The St. Louis County and Convention and Visitors Commission leases the stadium to the Rams. The commission previously had concerns about the dome's ability to hold conventions and trade shows with the newer surface.
