The St. Louis Rams have waived veteran Kyle Turley after failing his physical. Turley missed all of 2004 with a back injury before getting involved in confrontations with coach Mike Martz during the offseason. The player is expected to count against the Rams' salary cap to the tune of $1.82 million in 2005 and $5.47 million in 2006.

Turley started every game at right tackle in 2003 for the Rams after being acquired from the Saints for a second round draft choice. Unfortunately, he had to undergo surgery for a herniated disc the next offseason. He reinjured his back early in training camp and was placed on injured reserve in late August of 2004.

In December, Turley got into a shouting match with Martz in the coach's office. The player was outraged about a remark that the team had not seen him since he reinjured the back. Turley then stated there had been a "heated, unfortunately profane exchange." During the exchange, he accused the coach of telling him he had come to St. Louis "just to take the money and run."

The Rams filled Turley's spot in the lineup when they drafted offensive tackle Alex Barron in the first round of the 2005 draft. Turley did not appear at the team's minicamp last weekend.
