Deion Sanders, an eight-time Pro Bowler who turns 38 in August, signed a one-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens, capping an intriguing few days of tests. The contract is worth $1.5 million that could turn to as much as $4 million with incentives.

Sanders was second on the team last year with three interceptions, despite playing in just nine games. However, it was the seven he missed that was the cause for concern. Sanders underwent minor surgery on a toe in his left foot after last season. The Ravens delayed signing him until they had assurances that he was in good health. And so, Sanders endured one of the longest physicals in NFL history. The Ravens and his surgeon, Dr. William Hamilton, wanted to make sure that his reconstructed toe could hold up through the rigors of an NFL season.

Sanders flew to New York Tuesday so Hamilton could personally inspect it, and after a consultation between the surgeon and Ravens doctors, Sanders was cleared.

Sanders brings 13 years of NFL experience to a secondary loaded with talent. The Ravens believe his locker room presence and leadership qualities are as valuable as his play on the field.

Deion has a better shot at staying because he has the entire summer to prepare. Last year, he did not start training until August.
