The Redskins added another log to the "Landry moving to strong safety" fire by signing former Raiders free safety Stuart Schweigert to a free-agent deal, the team announced Monday.

Schweigert had 68 tackles and two interceptions in Oakland last season, but he fell out of favor there and was released earlier this offseason. Landry was inconspicuously absent from the Redskins' voluntary practices Monday - some of the first with new coach Jim Zorn.

Commentary: The murder of FS Sean Taylor last season forced Landry to take the former Pro Bowler's spot, but Landry was drafted to play strong safety. Schweigert gives the Redskins a veteran presence in the deep secondary, understanding the fact that Taylor's ability cannot be replaced.

Fantasy Impact: Redskins defensive coordinator Greg Blache can now use Landry in a freelancing capacity, much like the Jets' Kerry Rhodes and the Steelers' Troy Polamalu. With the amount of talent that Landry has, this could lead to a high number of interceptions and sacks for the Redskins.
