It's almost inexplicable and downright ludicrous, but for the sixth straight year, Art Monk failed to be selected for the Hall of Fame.

What does a guy have to do? Monk retired as the all-time receiving leader when he retired after the 1995 season. He won three Super Bowl rings with Washington Redskins and remains one of the top 10 receivers in terms of career receptions and yardage. His best season came in 1984 when he caught 106 passes for 1372 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Yet despite those accolades Monk has been left on the outside looking in. His repeated snubbing has led Redskins owner Dan Snyder to release a written statement stating the following: "Art Monk has earned a place in the Hall of Fame. Redskins fans know it, NFL fans know it, and it is long overdue for the Hall of Fame electors to confirm it."

Snyder's written remarks may have lacked tact and are unlikely to win Monk any sympathy with Hall of Fame voters, but that doesn't mean that they're not true.
