After their recent free agent frenzy the Washington Redskins' offense has gone from an afterthought to the marquee attraction. They've got a Pro Bowl-caliber running back in Clinton Portis. They've got a Pro Bowl-caliber receiver in Santana Moss. They just signed a circus-catch specialist with Pro Bowl potential in Brandon Lloyd, and they just signed one of the most versatile wide receivers in the league in Antwaan Randle El.

Tight end and offensive line issues aside, the only real question mark left on the offensive side of the football is at quarterback. Unfortunately, that's the worst kind of question mark that a football team can have.

Current starter Mark Brunell is coming off a resurgent season in which he threw 23 touchdowns to just 10 interceptions and racked up over 3,000 passing yards. Unfortunately, he will be 36 years of age in September and has already seen his share of injury woes. If all goes well, the old timer will match or even surpass last year's numbers and lead the Redskins to the promised land of Super Bowl contention. But what if all doesn't go well? What then?

Brunell's current backup, Patrick Ramsey, is likely on his way out of Washington. Even if he doesn't leave, he seems to have fallen out of favor with the coaching staff. Former Kansas City backup Todd Collins was recently brought into the fold, but I don't think that Collins has what it takes to be a legitimate starting option for the Redskins at this point. So that leaves last year's first round pick, Jason Campbell. The former Auburn standout is supposed to be the quarterback of the future, but unfortunately, he has yet to throw a pass in a regular season game.

Joe Gibbs is obviously counting on a healthy and trouble-free performance from Mark Brunell in 2006. If that happens, then these quarterback questions will like fade into oblivion. If that doesn't happen, the Washington Redskins could be headed for a very "questionable" season.
