Redskins sign three more draft picks

The Washington Redskins have signed three more 2006 draft picks, reaching an agreement with fifth-round DT Anthony Montgomery, sixth-round DT Kedric Golston and seventh-round LB Kevin Simon. Including S Reed Doughty, the Redskins have now signed four of their six draft picks with second-round LB Roger McIntosh and seventh-round OL Kili Lefotu left to sign.

Montgomery at 6-5, 311 lbs. is expected to compete for a backup position. During his career with the Minnesota Golden Gophers, the DT played in 45 games with 23 starts, and recorded 137 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, eight sacks, and two interceptions.

The 6-4, 292 pound Golston will also be competing for a backup position on the defensive line. Golston starred with the Georgia Bulldogs where he played in 44 games, with 30 starts, and had 95 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and three fumble recoveries.

Simon is expected to compete at the middle linebacker position. The 5-10, 235 pound LB played in 30 games with Tennessee Volunteers and collected 237 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, and 5.5 sacks.

To make room on the roster, the Redskins released five players: WR Ron Johnson, DT Chris Mineo, LB Justin Stull, OL Daniel Martz and DB Chijioke Onyenegecha.
