The Washington Redskins took a step towards shoring up their nickel back position by signing cornerback Artrell Hawkins. The seven year veteran was cut by the Carolina Panthers back in March.

Hawkins, who played his college ball with the Cincinnati Bearcats, played his first six NFL seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. He then moved to the Panthers for one year, but was unimpressive and was subsequently cut.

Artrell Hawkins' NFL career had a very promising start. He ended his rookie campaign with 71 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 15 passes defended. However, after seven lackluster seasons he seems to be stuck in the role of backup and/or nickel back. That being said, Hawkins will definitely add legitimate depth to the Washington Redskins secondary.
