Saints LB Dan Morgan announced his retirement from the NFL, the team announced Monday.

Morgan, a first-round draft pick of the Panthers in 2001, had been rehabbing an Achilles injury that kept him out of 13 games last season when he was with Carolina. Morgan has had a variety of other injuries in his seven years in the league -- including five concussions -- but still managed to rack up 452 tackles, seven sacks and five interceptions along with a Pro Bowl bid in 2004.

He had just signed with the Saints earlier this offseason.

Commentary: Morgan was a solid NFL player, but injuries unfortunately held him back. He only played four games in the past two seasons, but he started all 59 games he was eligible for in his seven seasons.

Fantasy Impact: The Saints couldn't have expected much from the oft-injured Morgan, but any help he could have provided for their weak run defense would have been a bonus.
