The Saints released former starting tight end Eric Johnson on Friday.

Johnson caught 48 passes for the Saints last season, but the recent acquisition of Jeremy Shockey, coupled with Johnson's slow rate to recover from an ankle injury, made the veteran expendable.

Commentary: Johnson was a serviceable pass catcher in 2007, but he wasn't a Shockey-like game-changer. The addition of Shockey was the final transaction needed for Johnson's release, but he may have been on the bubble to make the team in 2008 regardless.

Fantasy Impact: None
