NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana - New Orleans Saints running back Deuce McAllister has sued a Bourbon Street nightclub, claiming bouncers assaulted him while they were throwing his friends out a year ago. In the lawsuit, McAllister claims he was punched by bouncers at Razzoo's Bar and Patio on February 24, 2004, after he asked them why they were throwing his friends out of the club. According to the lawsuit, McAllister claims the bouncers also held him in a chokehold, causing him to lose consciousness and fall to his knees. The lawsuit says he had blurry vision and bruises and cuts afterward.

The nightclub has recently been accused of racism by several civil rights groups following the death of a 25-year-old black Georgia Southern student on New Year's Eve. Three bouncers face negligent homicide charges after Levon Jones died in a fight with them. A coroner said Jones suffocated as one bouncer held him in a headlock for 12 minutes, another pressed down on his back and the third bouncer held his legs.

McAllister said in a statement that "as a member of the New Orleans community, I have become increasingly concerned about how Razzoo's handles its security." He said he decided "to pursue this matter in the hopes that a positive verdict will enact change in their way of protecting patrons." The lawsuit argues that similar altercations involving bouncers at Razzoo's shows management did not properly train its staff.

Razzoo's said in a statement on Friday that McAllister had tackled a staff member, "pushing him approximately 20 feet across the patio," The bar said New Orleans police were called in and had to handcuff McAllister and escort him out of the club.
