The New Orleans Saints signed veteran running back Antowain Smith to a 1 year deal. Smith is expected to back up Deuce McAllister in New Orleans.

The 6'2", 232 lbs. Smith played for the Tennessee Titans in 2004. He finished with 509 yards and 4 touchdowns on 137 carries in 13 games - including 4 starts. In addition, Antowain caugh 22 passes for 169 yards.

Smith was a first round pick for the Buffalo Bills in 1997 out of University of Houston. After 4 years with the Bills, he joined the New England Patriots from 2001 until 2003. Smith has rushed 1,618 times for 6,222 yards (3.8 ypc) and 51 TDs in 115 career games. He also has 124 catches for 936 yards and 3 TDs.
