There were high expectations for Steve Spurrier coming and the South Carolina Gamecocks in the off season. He hasn't lived up to many of them starting the season 1-2. This week he can look ahead to the rest of the season after getting back to .500. The South Carolina Gamecocks beat the Troy State Trojans 45-20.

This season the Gamecocks have been relying on their passing game to move the ball on offense. They continued to do that this game with quarterbacks Blake Mitchell and Antonio Heffner. Mitchell was 11 of 14 for 177 yards and 2 touchdowns. Heffner was 6 of 9 for 91 yards and 1 touchdown.

South Carolina didn't struggle as bad with the running game against Troy as they did earlier in the season. The Gamecocks only had 71 total yards rushing against Alabama last week. On this night, Mike Davis had 78 yards rushing on 19 carries against the Trojans. QB Antonio Heffner ran for 45 yards and 1 touchdown. Daccus Turman also had a rushing touchdown.

Sidney Rice had 5 catches for 91 yards receiving and a touchdown. Syvelle Newton had a similar day with 5 catches for 74 yards and a touchdown. Michael Flint also had 1 touchdown catch.

Troy quarterback Carl Meadows was sacked five times by the South Carolina Gamecocks defense. Two of those sacks were courtesy of Mike West. Ryan Brown, Marque Hall, and Dakota Walker each had a sack. The Trojans offense was held to only 99 yards passing. Fred Bennett had an interception for the Gamecocks.
