Sixth in a series on Big East football teams and the 2007 season.

UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA BULLS.

RECORD: 9-4 (4-3 Big East).

HIGH POINTS: An early season upset of Auburn which, coupled with a second straight defeat of West Virginia and a 64-12 rout of Central Florida, lifted the Bulls to second in the nation in mid-October. Also, a 55-17 pounding of Louisville on Nov. 17.

LOW POINTS: Consecutive losses to Rutgers, Connecticut and Cincinnati after that No. 2 ranking was announced; a pounding at the hands of Oregon in the Sun Bowl.

MAJOR LOSSES: CBs Mike Jenkins and Trae Williams; LB Ben Moffitt; C Nick Capogna; WR Amerri Jackson; DL Allen Cray.

TOP RETURNEES: QB Matt Grothe; RBs Mike Ford and Benja Williams; WR Carlton Mitchell; DE George Selvie; DB Nate Allen; PK Delbert Alvarado.

2008 OUTLOOK: Early October was South Florida's coming=out party, culminating in a top-five ranking on Oct. 16. Unfortunately, the party ended badly with consecutive losses to three Big East opponents. QB Matt Grothe, DE George Selvie (a scary 31 tackles for loss) and RB Mike Ford and several others are marquee players -- the question is whether Jim Leavitt can plug in enough talent around them for the long haul. The Bulls won't sneak up on anyone next season.
