PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (Ticker) - The Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday released veteran cornerback Chad Scott and tight end Jay Riemersma.

A starter since his rookie season in 1997, Scott had the second-longest tenure on the team behind running back Jerome Bettis. The 30 year-old CB had been a starter since his rookie campaign but lost his job at right cornerback to Willie Williams last season after suffering a quadriceps injury in an October 17 game against Dallas. Scott, who made $4.8 million last season, played in 91 games with 88 starts with the Steelers, collecting 19 interceptions.

Riemersma, 31, played in 22 games over two seasons with the Steelers, catching 17 passes for 220 yards and three touchdowns. This past season, Riemersma suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in a December 5 game against Jacksonville. He finished the campaign with seven receptions for 82 yards and two TDs in 11 games. A 1996 seventh-round pick of Buffalo, Riemersma has 221 receptions for 2,524 yards and 23 touchdowns in 112 games.
