Trust us on this -- Deandre Preaster is worth writing about twice -- at least for Syracuse fans. He and hometown recruit Marcus Sales are supposed to be the best pair of wide receivers signed by the Orange in years, and this is a school with a wide receiver tradition (Marvin Harrison, Rob Moore, Qadry Ismail, Art Monk, etc.).

The problem was, Preaster was so busy starring in football and basketball (his leaping ability, at 6-3, is what makes him special) that he fneglected to qualify academically. So Morrisville College, a newly minted Division III program, announced earlier this week that Preaster would play either wide receiver or safety for them this season.

Apparently, though, they foirgot to inform Preaster.

"I never said I was going there," he told the Syracuse Post-Standard, adding that he was planning on taking two history courses at his high school (Utica Proctor) this summer and another remedial course at a junior college and be eligible for enrollment at Syracuse by January. Maybe in time to play for Jim Boeheim.

Meanwhile, another Orange academic reclamation project isn't going well. Mike Williams, who scored 10 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2007, left school after the spring semester over an "academic issue," and was supposed to have enrolled at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse and apply for readmission. But he didn't sign up at OCC, and now he looks as though he might go the division 1-AA route so he can play immediately.
