A few months ago, Syracuse University was afraid of losing DeAndre Preaster to Pitt, West Virginia or some other rival Division I-A football program. Or maybe even to a Division I basketball program, considering the 6-foot-3, 190-pound Preaster played both sports equally well at Proctor High School (alma mater of New Orleans Saints defensive end Will Smith) in Utica, N.Y.

Now, as it turns out, the Orange is losing its three-star recruit and his 4.5 speed to Morrisville.

Morrisville? It's about 30 miles down the road, a former junior college now starting a Division III football program. Because Preaster couldn't qualify academically at Syracuse, Morrisville is his most viable alternative. And while the Morrisville coach said "We're no longer in the transfer business," it's a good bet that SU will welcome Preaster with open arms if his grades take a vertical leap.

Preaster reminded some observers of Mike Williams, Syracuse's leading receiver last season, who also flunked off the team. He was also considered a possibility for safety.

For Syracuse coach Greg Robinson, it just keeps getting worse.
