The past can’t predict the future. But when Texas plays Texas Tech, the Longhorns usually prevail.

Commentary: In their series, which began in 1928, the Longhorns have earned 43 victories to the Red Raiders' 14. Over the past decade, Texas has dominated even more.

During Mack Brown’s 10-year tenure in Austin, the Longhorns have won eight matchups against Tech. The Red Raiders triumphed 42-35 in Brown’s first season and won 42-38 in 2002 for their only win during the Mike Leach Era.

Potent offense highlights this intense rivalry, especially on the part of Texas. The Horns have scored over 30 points in each of the last 10 games. The only exception came in 2000, when they defeated Texas Tech 29-17.

With Colt McCoy completing over 80 percent of his passes this season, the offensive fireworks should continue. Both Quan Cosby and Jordan Shipley have emerged as clutch receivers with the ability to score from any point on the field.

Defense holds the key to a Texas victory. Last Saturday, the Horns secondary held Oklahoma State’s Dez Bryant and Brandon Pettigrew in check with neither reaching the end zone as Texas limited the Cowboys to 199 passing yards.

The Longhorns have survived three straight pressure-packed games and now claim unanimous support at the nation’s top team. History indicates they can make it four in a row against the Red Raiders.

Fan Pulse: As expected, fan anticipation heightens when two undefeated, top 10 teams meet. Check out this link for their comments: http://forums.hornfans.com/php/wwwthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=football&Number=5760167&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&fpart;=.

Injury report: Cornerback Chykie Brown missed the Oklahoma State game with an ankle injury, and his status is unknown against Texas Tech.
