Titans’ front office has plenty of work to do

With Tennessee in for an action-packed offseason, Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt is a busy man these days. But if you had to pick which is the top priority for the team, you'd be hard-pressed to choose anything other than re-signing Albert Haynesworth.

Of course, Reinfeldt & Co. have until March 5 to retain the All-Pro defensive tackle; in 2007, Haynesworth was such a disruptive, double-teamed menace to every offensive line he faced that his work allowed comrades Kyle Vanden Bosch, Travis LaBoy and Antwan Odom to work more freely in wreaking havoc. No one in Nashville would dare say that Haynesworth was not the top reason for the team's fifth-ranked defense.

Almost as important as Haynesworth in 2007 was kicker Rob Bironas, an All-Pro who racked up 133 points and single-handedly kept the Titans from losing multiple games. If not for Bironas, Tennessee certainly would have missed the postseason.

To make the mad scramble that much madder is trying to keep defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz from jumping into a head coaching position. To date, Schwartz has interviewed for the Atlanta and Miami vacancies, and he is rumored to have piqued the interest of the Redskins' brass, too.

Throw in that offensive coordinator Norm Chow was fired Tuesday after three seasons with the team, and Reinfeldt's headaches are becoming increasingly, well, titanic. However, Tennessee's offense finished 21st in the league this past season, so there is some justification for the termination.

To sum things up, if Murphy's Law strikes and the team ends up losing its top player and both coordinators, you can safely say there is something seriously amiss in Tennessee. And should that take place, don't look for the Titans to revisit the playoffs next January.

Pacman Jones is way better than Rolle. You can't really compare based on 2007 because the NFL wouldn't let Pacman play. Pacman ...
