Overtime was needed to decide this closely contested and somewhat controversial matchup between two Mountain West Conference foes. In the end, the TCU Horned Frogs were able to end the Utah Utes' 18-game winning streak and win the game 23-20.

The game was decided on what some would say was a questionable play when Tye Gunn threw a 4-yard scoring pass to Michael DePriest. Another Horned Frogs receiver sprung DePriest by running a route that seemed to intentionally put him in a position to pick the defender that was responsible for DePriest. That defender ended up on the ground while DePriest waltzed in for the winning score.

The Utah Utes were led by quarterback Brian Johnson. He passed for 201 yards on 14 of 29 passes, but had one interception. He also added 48 rushing yards on 22 carries. RB Quinton Ganther had only 48 yards on 22 carries but did have a touchdown run. WR Brent Casteel nabbed four catches for 90 yards.

The Utah Utes will face off against Air Force next Thursday night.
